A Note About Terminology

At AdaMarie, one of our core values is inclusion. We prioritize creating environments of belonging – both in the workplace and on this platform.

Language around diversity, equity, and inclusion is continuously evolving, and different words can have different meanings for different people. We strive to be as inclusive as possible in the language that we use, and that starts with clarity:

Throughout our brand, we’ve used the terms “woman” and “women” as shorthand to describe those who disproportionately face barriers, due to their gender. We intend for these terms to include individuals who identify as women, non-binary, or gender non-conforming. We recognize, however, that the barriers faced by non-binary individuals may not be the same barriers faced by those who identify as women. For this reason, our research, consulting, and mentoring are grounded in best practices that support a range of underrepresented genders, beyond cis women.

We try our best to use inclusive vocabulary, and we appreciate your input and feedback, as our knowledge around equity is always evolving, as well. We welcome your feedback below.

AdaMarie was founded to foster equal access to opportunities in a field where certain genders have faced and continue to face, more structural barriers than others. Even as their representation in the pipeline improves, the rates at which women are hired, promoted and compensated for their work still lag behind those of their male counterparts. To level the playing field, we must focus on increasing access to opportunities for groups that have been historically left out.

Our platform welcomes all allies, educators, corporations, and partners who support the mission of realizing gender equity in STEM.
