How You Show Up Matters: Dr. Shy Brown on Confidence, Character, and Career Growth

One of the most motivating workshops from the 2026 AdaMarie Career Navigation Summit is now available inside the AdaMarie Professional Network. Here’s what you’ll take away from it and how to watch the full session.

Technical skills can get you in the door, but how you work with others, build trust, and take ownership can shape where your career goes next.

In her Career Navigation Summit workshop, Dr. Shy Brown draws on her experience as a biochemist and founder and executive director of Building Bridges, Inc. to explore the skills that help early-career professionals grow.

She makes the case for developing three areas together: soft skills, transferable skills, and character. She argues that knowing how to do the work matters and so does being someone others can trust, depend on, and count on to follow through.

Dr. Brown also challenges professionals to move beyond simply being present to being intentional: contributing ideas, taking ownership, and bringing solutions alongside problems. With practical reflection exercises to help you identify your strengths and areas for growth, this session offers a useful starting point for becoming the colleague and professional you want to be.
