You Are Not a Resume. You’re a Playlist.

There’s a version of career advice that tells you to simplify yourself. Pick a lane. Stay consistent. Make it make sense. But in Week 3 of the AdaMarie Career Accelerator, She’kia Morant offered a different lens; one that felt both freeing and practical: You are not one track. You are a playlist. And the goal is to understand how all the parts work together.

That idea landed quickly with the group because it names something many people feel but don’t always know how to articulate: their experience doesn’t look linear, and they’re not sure how to explain it.

She’kia reframed that completely. Your range is the differentiator. The roles that don’t perfectly connect. The pivots you didn’t plan. The mix of technical, creative, and relational skills. That’s the thing that makes you adaptable, memorable, and valuable across spaces.

From there, the conversation moved into something even more useful: how to actually talk about that range:

  • Who you are today.

  • Where you come from.

  • Where you’re going and why it matters to you.

Simple structure. But powerful when practiced. That kind of clarity creates opportunities and helps people advocate for you in rooms you’re not in.

She’kia also spoke about navigating spaces where she has to advocate for her ideas, back them with data, and move through environments that weren’t designed with her in mind and still choosing to show up with intention. That context matters, especially for early-career professionals trying to understand not just how to grow, but how to sustain themselves while doing it.

If there’s one action to take from this session, it’s this: Say your story out loud. Not perfectly. Not once. Repeatedly. Because your ability to move in your career is about how clearly you can communicate it when the moment comes.
